Breakdown

Michelle and I each installed Bridge to our personal computers. This will allow us to download assets from Quixel/Epic Games. I have also set up an organized folder system on Dropbox, so Michelle and I can keep our files in order. We also looked at more reference photos and realized that we want to go for a more cool toned environment with a warm colored glow from the robots hearts. We have  also locked the camera angle, and will work on the camera's animation for this shot. Michelle and I have also found different animations on Mixamo for each robot. We are currently problem solving a rigging issue, and will have that figured out shortly. Moving forward, we plan to gather more assets for the background buildings, and some vine assets for the cg foreground!

As our progress continues, I have began gathering reference and asset photographs of buildings and cities to be used for the background matte painting. We may have to create a building on our own in Maya that michelle could texture, to add another level of realism to our scene. This building would be placed between the cg foreground and the 2d matte painting. We have also experimented with camera shake in Maya, but seem to be having a bake issue once it is imported into Nuke. We are currently problem solving this. In addition, Michelle is working on UVs and textures for the cg assets. We also gathered some ivy/vine assets from Quixel and imported them in, These assets imported as cards, and we learned that there is an opacity map that must be plugged into the ivy material for it to look/work  properly. Photos of this can be seen below. Moving forward, we will position the cg plants/debris within our composition. The matte painting progress will also begin this week as well as adding elements of fog and rain. According to our proposed timeline - we are on schedule!

Michelle and I have run into some render issues. Renders coming back from the farm are showing up without textures, and do not have their opacity maps working correctly either. Michelle and I are working on solving this issue. In the meantime, the matte painting has been started. Below are the images I have started piecing together. Still a work in progress - need to add more buildings, and then I will be bringing this image into Nuke to fix color corrections, card projections, and fog placement.
